Unfortunately, sometimes the nerve of a tooth can become infected, or trauma may cause the nerve to become exposed. Tooth infection or tooth ache can be exceptionally painful, and more importantly it can be extremely detrimental to your health.
What is a root canal?
Essentially, what a root canal treatment involves is carefully cleaning out the bacteria that has found its way inside the tooth, through decay, a crack or trauma. After the inside of the tooth is cleaned, it is sealed up with a filling material to ensure that bacteria cannot reinfect the tooth.
Do I need a crown?
Usually, a tooth that requires a root canal treatment is often very broken or decayed. Due to this, we will often recommend that the tooth is protected with a crown after the root canal is completed to give the tooth the best chance of being part of your happy smile for years to come!
The term ‘root canal’ often has negative connotations for many people. An untreated tooth infection and even a poorly done root canal treatment can leave behind trapped infection, which is obviously detrimental to your health. We want to provide you with all the information you need so you can make the right treatment decision for you.
