What is the TMJ?

The joint between our jaw and our skull is called the temporomandibular joint (TMJ). This joint can make all sorts of clicks and creaks. But sometimes these sounds can be associated with jaw pain and discomfort, this is called temporomandibular joint dysfunction (TMD). The causes of TMD can be multifactorial and related to both anatomical and psychological issues. TMD may also be related to the relationship of the teeth in the jaw. Often, jaw issues manifest in worn down teeth from bruxism or grinding. Tooth grinding can lead to a range of painful issues including sensitivity, broken teeth and cracked teeth.  

What can we do about TMD?
